Overview
It is a well-known fact that surgeons prefer to use conventional reusable scalpel handles over disposable safety scalpels, due to a number of “usability” problems that deter them from accepting the sheathed or retractable scalpel designs. However, conventional reusable scalpel handles are unsafe because removal of blades is a difficult and thus increases the risk of injury. Blades may also sometimes break and the blade remover devices are often very expensive. The SAFhandle™ reusable metal safety scalpel has the exact shape, dimensions, weight, grip and balance of a conventional scalpel and does not require the surgeon to change their technique.
The SAFhandle™ reusable metal safety scalpel also allows for ‘no-touch’ removal of blade and eliminates the need for blade remover devices to be used. The design of the handle also prevents the possibility of the blade breaking during procedure or disassembly.
The SAFhandle™ reusable metal safety scalpel requires very little training to use and offers the optimum balance between employee safety and the delivery of optimal healthcare to patients.
